Every year, the DSAM Executive Board approves a wide ranging legislative agenda.  To achieve results in Lansing, DSAM employs the services of the premier lobbying firm in the state, Governmental Consultant Services Incorporated (GCSI).  In addition to DSAM's legislative agenda, GCSI lobbyists scrutinize daily all proposed bills and resolutions introduced in the Legislature to measure their impact on DSAM members.  

In collaboration with their clients, GCSI has established a powerful Political Action Committee (PAC) network that contributes an unparalleled amount each election cycle to various elected incumbents and those who aspire to state elected offices. Such financial support augments our ability to access leaders in state government and immediately makes DSAM relevant in the political process.

DSAM endorses candidates for state offices. With the assistance of GCSI, DSAM has established an average endorsement success rate of 95%. 

Year after year, GCSI is named "Lansing's most effective multi-client lobbying firm" in an annual poll of Lansing insiders conducted by EPIC/MRA.

TRAINING:

 An important service DSAM provides to our members is training.  Seminars are held around the state for all law enforcement and local corrections officers.  DSAM training seminars include:

PUBLIC SAFETY SCHOLARSHIP PROGRAM:

Every general member of DSAM or that member's immediate family is eligible to participate in DSAM's Public Safety Scholarship Program.  Each year four (4) high school seniors or active college students who are enrolled in law enforcement or corrections programs may receive a $500 scholarship.  One scholarship is awarded in each vice presidential area (see map).

GIVING BACK TO THE COMMUNITY: 

DSAM is involved in communities throughout our state.  DSAM is a member of and assists the Michigan Community Child Watch Association with funding and training.  DSAM maintains and funds an extensive library of public safety videos and DVD's which are loaned out, at no cost except postage, to community affairs and school officers throughout Michigan's law enforcement agencies to better educate the public on how to stay safe and avoid becoming a crime victim.
