Zeeland Settles Contract with a Surprise Print

zeeland.jpgThe Officers of the Zeeland Police Department have already settled their contract with the city even though they have until June before their current contract expires, according to an article in the Holland Sentinel.

That fact is not too surprising given the relationship between the City Council and the Officer's union has rarely been acrimonious. Also, the 3% raises they are assured over the following three years seems fair if not a bit low given the currently outrageous rate of inflation.

What is surprising is that a little town like Zeeland would be forward thinking enough to offer annual $500.00 bonuses to any of their Officers that earn a master's degree.

I am left wondering if the tuition of those Officer's will be paid as well, but either way this is a great, inexpensive way for a small town to foster growth and development from within.

FYI, they do help pay for up to 75% of the cost for classes related to L.E.
